Today Year 2 visited the Beacon museum in Whitehaven. We had a great time in the museum exploring the coastline and the history of the town. We discovered fossils of extinct animals linked to squid and octopus, we learnt about the mining industry and the famous Lowther family that made this all possible and are the reason why the town and harbour is as it is today.

We also took part in harbour trail of Whitehaven harbour led by tour guide Alan. Alan taught us lots of information about the mining town and why the Lowther family were so important. We discovered a range of monuments on our walk which were tributes to miners who had lots their lives in the past. We also walked along the harbour wall learning more about the tide and erosion before walking up to the candlestick noticing how rocks have formed in an unusual way as we walked past. We learnt so many things and Alan was really impressed with everyone’s behaviour and listening skills. A super day had by all!
