The Intent, Implementation and Impact of our Curriculum – R.E.
RE
Intent
At Seaton Academy, we aim to provide a high-quality Religious Education (RE) curriculum that enables children to develop and deepen their understanding of different world religions and beliefs. Through our RE provision, we aim to encourage pupils to develop a strong sense of respect and tolerance for different cultures and beliefs as well as develop their own values, commitments, and spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. We aim to create meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences for all pupils and to engage them in a variety of interactive and stimulating activities that promote creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking.
Implementation
We implement our RE curriculum through a range of cross-curricular or religiously-specific themes and topics that reflect the diversity of religion and belief in the UK. We follow the locally agreed syllabus for RE and ensure that we cover all the required areas of study, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Sikhism. We also make sure that we teach RE in a way that is accessible and engaging to all pupils, regardless of their background, ability, or personal beliefs.
Through our RE curriculum, we provide opportunities for pupils to learn about the key beliefs and practices of different religions, including their history, traditions, festivals, and celebrations. We also encourage pupils to reflect on their own beliefs and values and compare and contrast them with those of others. We encourage pupils to show mutual respect, empathy, and understanding towards those of different religions and cultures.
Our RE provision is delivered by highly skilled and well-informed teachers who use a range of resources and teaching methods to create memorable and meaningful learning experiences for pupils. We take advantage of local and national opportunities for visits, speakers, and events such as church visits, talks from religious leaders, and interfaith days.
Impact
Our aim for our RE curriculum is to enable pupils to develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, and to take forward these skills and attitudes into later life. Our pupils demonstrate a deep respect for different religions and cultures and show a willingness to engage in interfaith dialogue and understanding. We measure the impact of our RE provision through the following:
- Pupil participation in and enjoyment of RE lessons
- Pupil understanding of different religious concepts and practices
- Pupil attitudes towards other religions and cultures
- Pupil reflection on their own values and beliefs
- Pupil engagement in wider faith and community events
- Feedback from parents, pupils, and external stakeholders
Overall, we believe that our RE curriculum is making a positive impact on our pupils’ lives and that we are providing children with experiences and knowledge that will be valuable for their future development as thoughtful, empathetic, and tolerant citizens.
